Swimming
The Park
does not encourage or recommend swimming in any of the
streams. If you do swim, it is at your own
risk. You are highly cautioned not to do so. The
water is cold year round which can cause hypothermia.
For
swimming pleasure there are several local activities
offered on this page.
Fishing
You will
need a fishing license to fish in the state of
Tennessee. You can fish anywhere in the park
unless it is posted as "No Fishing".
You can purchase a fishing license locally. Be
sure to find out the rules and regulations of fishing
when you obtain your license.

Hiking
Information
on ranger guided and/or self guided tours are
available at any of the visitor/welcome centers.
The Park
has many beautiful waterfalls that you can hike to and
see. Follow the waterfall link for information
on each individual waterfall. Click

For those
of you that don't want to hike on foot there are
several motor trails that you can enjoy. Click
here for motor trail information.
Important
things to remember when hiking:
Wear
comfortable shoes that keep your feet warm and protect
your feet. Hiking boots are recommended.
Do not
drink untreated water.
Stay on
the trails to avoid getting lost.
It is
illegal to remove anything from the park. Leave
everything as you find it. Including flowers
& rocks.
Keep
children with you at all times.
Do not
climb the trees or on the rocks around the waterfalls.
PLEASE do
not liter!! Take everything out of the park that you
bring in. Everything means everything!
Candy wrappers, gum wrappers, lunch wrappings,
leftover food, cigarette butts. GARBAGE KILLS
BEARS! Not to mention all the other animals who
call this Park their home. It also keeps the
Park beautiful for your viewing pleasure and others.

There are
over 85 Backcountry campsites and 16 shelters to
choose from. Some will even provide for your
horses. Information about these sites can be
obtained at any Park visitor/welcome center.

Bicycling
Bicycles
are allowed on any road that is open to automobile
traffic. Bicycles are not allowed on the Park
trails but there may be a few exceptions. Please
be safe and wear helmets! Children under 12 are
required to do so by law in the state of Tennessee.
Cades Cove
offers bicycle rentals.
Picnics
There are
many nice picnic areas in the Smokies. You can
obtain picnic area information at any of the
visitor/welcome centers.
CAUTION:
Please!! Do not feed the animals for your safety and
the animals.
